Online Video Consumption and HR Technology
A few weeks ago, I ran across a statistic that online video consumption had increased by 800% over the last 6 years. As someone that has been researching recruiting trends and more specifically video use in hiring since 2006, I have seen the changes in business around video first hand. I have watched digital interviewing evolve from a handful of vendors to a sub-market of an industry. I have watched the impact of video on employment branding and hiring. I’ve researched and seen the ROI of companies that use it as a screening tool, often replacing their phone screens and I predicted its rise way back in 2007 a Wall Street Journal article. Even with all that understanding of the industry and video marketplace, that statistic was staggering.
Shortly after seeing that statistic, I was on a call with the WePow CEO, Imo Udom about the growth and evolution of use they were seeing with their video interviewing platform – as well as some of the misconceptions around video use they have heard (only for young people, not that prevalent, just a trend…) Being the stats nerd I was I knew we had to put something together to share the reality of video use and how it is impacting not only our personal lives, but how we do business and how we find jobs.
I don’t think I’ll be alone in being caught off guard by many of the statistics found for this infographic – Video has slowly become a part of our lives. Like smart phones. Or social media. One day you wake up and it’s just everywhere. You don’t remember when it happened, or how – but slowly it changed to the norm.
From hiring to learning to retention, we will only see expansion in its use in business and human resources.
